Model Holy Ark. Wood. Israel, 1950s
Large, impressive model of a Holy Ark and bima. Quality wood with reeds. Israel, c. 1950s.
The 'floor' measures 52x32 cm. The ark measures 16x28 cm. and has a height of 55 cm.
Tall, rectangular ark with a dome and Star of David at its head. A 'case' with doors for the Torah Scroll, arched windows with bars, pillars. The top of the ark is flanked by two decorative glass lamps shaped like clusters. The ark is decorated with square and rectangular shapes with colored 'buttons'. The frame is carved into different shapes. Nice 'bima' with similar motifs. A small parchment 'Sefer Torah' with the 'parsha' of Shema. Velvet cover. This impressive model is complete and in very fine condition, other than one piece missing from the top of dome.
We have not identified a synagogue whose ark is copied in this model.
