Isidor Kaufmann. Portfolio, Vienna 1925. Signed by Rabbi Zvi Peretz Chayut
Portfolio of works of artist Isidor Kaufmann depicting Jewish life in Eastern Europe. Introductory booklet, and printed enthusiastic letter signed by Rabbi Zvi Peretz Chayut. Vienna, 1925. First edition.
16 colored lithographs. Each lithograph is pasted within a separate cardboard folder with a "window", like matting, measuring 58x46 cm - with a number and the artist's name in pencil. The works are then within an original portfolio measuring 59x47 cm.
With a booklet in German, 8 pages, featuring an essay by Hermann Menkes. A large picture of the artist is pasted to the first page, followed by a list of illustrations in the portfolio. The booklet is tied with a lace. An additional large leaf has been included in the booklet, featuring the enthusiastic greetings of Rabbi Dr. Zvi Peretz Chayut, Chief Rabbi of Vienna, in which he extols the works. The letter was written in German on May 20, 1925 – with his signature in ink.
This portfolio contains 13 of the 16 lithographs, one is of a different size [perhaps from a different edition]. The lithographs are in very fine condition. The portfolio is blemished and is in moderate condition.
