Toras Moshe/ Alshich
Toras Moshe/ Alshich. Amsterdam 1777.
Classic commentary on the Chumash by R. Moshe Alshich. From its first printing in Constantinople in 1595 this sefer was extremely highly regarded, and was thereafter reprinted many times. Countless of the later commentators based their works upon the Alshich.
R. Moshe Alshich was a disciple student of R. Yosef Karo (Beis Yosef) and R. Yosef Tiatzik. He emigrated to Tzefas together with the Bais Yosef, and served as a Dayan on the Bais Yosef’s Beth Din. Revered for his phenomenal scholarship both in the revealed parts of the Torah as well as Kabbalah, he has the distinction of being referred to as the Alshich Ha’Kodosh (the Holy Alshich).
