Babylonian Talmud - Complete set. The Zhitomir edition printed by Rabbi Chanina Lipa and Rabbi Yehoshua Heschil Shapira, the grandsons of the Rabbi of Slavita. Zhitomir, 1858-1864. Very important edition.
A rare, original set, with matching ancient bindings, leather spine and corners with an inscription on the binding. Size of leaves: 39 cm. Width of leaves: 24.5 cm. Particularly wide margins. Printed on "Regal" paper. Most volumes are in excellent condition.
The rabbis of the Shapira family, the Zhitomir printers, printed special copies of important books on "Regal" paper - with particularly wide margins. These copies cost a fortune. They were designated for contemporary well-known Rebbes, Tzaddikim and wealthy people. The wealthy people used to order this edition of the Talmud to give to their rabbis, the Rebbe.
The Shas before us is a "Regal" Shas. We do not know of another complete set. It is most likely that the Shas before us in the only complete set in the world!
A complete, original set. Original bindings with leather back and special corners. Impressive volumes.
Condition: Very Good. Several leaves are stained. Single leaves are detached. The cloth covering the binding of several of the volumes is worn and detached.
Such a Shas has never been seen in auctions!
