A Large Machzor according to the Custom of Rome - Two Sections - Mantova, 1718 - Signatures of the Sagri Family, with a Handwritten Story about being Saved from Death - Long Handwritten Additions
A Machzor according to the custom of the community of Rome. With the addition of the prayer by Rabbi Shmuel Latif at the beginning of the Machzor and different kabblust prayers and additions of Dinim by Rabbi Avraham Yedidya Basile. Sections A-B. Mantova, 1718-1720. Printed by Yitzchak Yareh and Ya'akov Chaver Tov.
Each section with a separate title page. The title pages are in an architectural frame with a wood engraving.
At the beginning of the book, a preface by the proofreader, Rabbi Avraham Yedidya ben Rabbi Menachem Shimshon Basile.
On the reverse side of the title page of the first section, a handwritten story by Rabbi Elisha Chaim Sagri, who was saved from death in 1775. Rabbi Elisha Sagri, the son of Rabbi Chaim Sagri, replaced his father as the rabbi of the Vercelli community of Italy.
The copy was passed from generation to generation of the honorable Sagri family: on the title page, a signature in initials: "S.L.Y." and an additional signature: "Moshe Aharon Sagri". On the forsazt leaf, inscriptions of the Sagri family from 1885.
Among the leaves of the book, several long glosses and comments - additions of prayer segments that had been omitted (deliberately or not). The additions are in Italian script similar to that of the signature of Rabbi Moshe Aharon Sagri on the title page.
[2], 117; 93 leaves.
Condition: Good-Fair. Wear and tear. Stains.
Added is a copying of the manuscript with the story about the saving from death.
