Bat Melech / Zera Kodesh Matzevata - Kabbala - Includes Leaves that had been Saved from the Fire! - The Printing had Started in Frankfurt and Ended in Venice - 1711-1712
The volume contains two compositions:
Bat Melech. Venice, 1712.
Bound with:
Zera Kodesh Matzevata. Frankfurt, 1711.
A special story underlies the printing of the book.
In 1711, the composition "Zera Kodesh Matzeveta" (by Rabbi Moshe Graph) was printed in Frankfurt. The book was prepared for printing by Rabbi Shimon Abayov, who had wanted to print with it the kabbalist composition he had authored - "Bat Melech". However, a huge fire in Frankfurt destroyed many houses of the city, as well as the printing house. Most of the sheets for printing were burned. The last leaves of "Zera Kodesh" of all copies were completely burned. The first leaves survived the fire. So, Rabbi Shimon Abayov sent the leaves that remained to Venice and there the printing of the book was completed.
Thus, the first section of "Zera Kodesh matzevata", until leaf 40, was printed in Frankfurt in 1711 while the final section (section 6, leaves 41-44) was printed in Venice by the Bragadin printing press in 1712.
As he had planned, Rabbi Shimon Abayov added his kabbalist composition "Bat Melech" and it too was printed in Venice and appears in the volume before us, before "Zerta Kodesh".
On the title page of "Bat Melech" an ancient pencil signature: "Menachem Mendel…"
20 leaves; 44 leaves.
Condition: Good. Wear and tear. No binding.
