Eitz Avos by Rabbi Yaakov Emden. First Edition. Amsterdam, 1751

Maseches Avos with commentaries of the Bartenura and Tosfos Yom Tov, and an extensive elucidation by Harav Yaakov Emden, the Yaabetz

The Yaabetz’s commentary contains three parts:

Lechem Shamayim—a commentary on the Mishnah.

Lechem Nekudim—a composition on the vowelization of the Mishnah.

Luach Eres—grammatical notes on the Mishnah and its formulations with critique of the grammarian Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Henna. (In his introduction to Luach Eresh, bottom of pg. 75b, the Yaabetz writes that the approbation to Sefer Beis Tefillah signed by his father, the Chacham Tzvi, was a forgery.)

In this work, the Yaabetz notes that the commentary attributed to Rashi on Tractate Avos was not, in fact, written by Rashi.

Amsterdam, 1751. First edition. 82 leaves. Page size: 19 cm. An approbation by his brother-in-law, Harav Aryeh Leib, Av Beis Din of Amsterdam and a son-in-law of the Chacham Tzvi appears on the back of the title page. Professional restoration of title page. Minor holes on bottom margins. Good condition. Rare.
