Long Response from the Author of "Aruch La'Ner", with a Comment Handwritten by Him and His Signature - 1869
Letter signed by Rabbi Ya'akov Ettlinger, author of "Aruch La'Ner" to his son-in-law, Rabbi Dr. Yisrael Meir Freimann, the rabbi of Ostrów, author of the "Anfei Yehuda" commentary.
The letter is of Divrei Torah. Long letter (2 pp.)

The first half of the letter was printed (with slight changes) in the author's book, the "Binyan Zion" Responsa (Siman 133). However, in the leaf before us, the author added a comment at the margins of the leaf, in his handwriting, which had not been printed. The second half of the letter, in which the "Aruch La'Ner" cites an additional question of his father-in-law, on the same Sugiya, was printed in the above book (Siman 134) with slight changes.

At the end of the letter (which does not appear in the version that was printed), the "Aruch La'Ner" writes: "This is what seems to me in my humble opinion, your father-in-law and lover, Ya'akov … ben Aharon Ettlinger".
The letter before us is undated; yet, the date is noted in the printed version: "… 1869".

Rabbi Ya'akov Ettlinger (1798-1871), the Chief Rabbi of Altona since 1836, one of the most prominent rabbis of Germany and one of the greatest fighters against reform Judaism. Among his disicples, the Rashar Hirsch and Rabbi Azriel Hildesheimer.

Folded leaf. 15x22 cm.
Condition: Good. Wear and tear to the margins.
