Letter of Recommendation Handwritten and Signed by Rabbi Yechezkel Bennet (the First), Av Beit Din of Nitra - 1842 - Extremely Rare
Letter with words of praise and recommendation for Rabbi Yehoshua Ha'Levi Taeuber, handwritten and signed by Rabbi Yechezkel Bennet Av Beit Din of Nitra. The 3rd of Nissan 5602, 12.5.1842.
The letter was addressed to communities which might accept Rabbi Yehosua Ha'Levi as their rabbi.
At the margins of the letter, Rabbi Bennet's special signature: "Yechezkel ben Ha'Rav JacoBennet…" - the letter B serving to end the name "Jacob" and begin the name "Bennet".

Rabbi Yechezkel Bennet Av Beit Din of Nitra (1777-1855) was born in Obuda to his father, the Dayan Ya'akov Bennet, a disciple of Rabbi Moshe Mintz Av Beit Din of Obuda. In 1806, he replaced his brother, Rabbi Moshe Mordechai, as rabbi of Setshin. After about ten years, he left the place and lived in a village near Paks. In 1824, he became the rabbi of Paks and since 1832, served as Av Beit Din of Nitra. He corresponded with the "Chatam Sofer" and the "Ketav Sofer" and their responses were published in the "Chatam Sofer". The Chatam Sofer, in his response, describes him: "I have written to Ha'Ma'or Ha'Gadol (the Great Light) of Paks".

Rabbi Yehoshua Taeuber, the son of Rabbi Aharon Taeuber author of "Yad Aharon" and disciple of the author of "Baruch Ta'am". Was born in 1818. As a young man, he was the disciple of Rabbi Pinchas Friedan. Later he was the disciple of the Chatam Sofer who found him "full of wisdom in God's Torah" and gave him a "Ketav Chaver" (printed in "Ha'Ohel", year 3). Several months later, he was authorized to be called "Morenu" ("Our Teacher") Rabbi Yehoshua. See also the next item.
