Letter handwritten by Rabbi David Baharan to the managers of the City Committee of the Ashkenazi Community (Ha'Edah Ha'Charedit). Signed with Rabbi Meir Heller (Semnitzer) and Rabbi Baruch Feldbrand. The 1st of Iyar 1935.
"Let it be clearky understood that a huge number of members of Ha'Edah Ha'Charedit … oppose and object to any agreement to join the non-religious and their leaders…"

In winter 1935, the negotiation between the leaders of "Agudat Yisrael" and the heads of the Jewish National Council was renewed and for several weeks, the representatives of the two bodies discussed the cooperation between them regarding political and economic issues.
Rabbi David Baharan wrote the letter before us to object to this initiative.

The letter and the background of its writing was published in an article titled "Giborim La'Amod Ba'Feretz - Amidatam shel Rabbi Elchanan Wasserman Ve'Rabbi David Baharan Neged Agudat Yisrael al Hitchabrutam im Ha'Va'ad Ha'Leumi Ha'Tziyoni" (Heroes Preventing a Disaster - The Position of Rabbi Elchanan Wasserman and Rabbi David Baharan and their Loud Protest against Agudat Yisrael for Its Joining the Zionist National Council) (the article can be found on the Internet).

Rabbi David Baharan (1865-1946), one of the most prominent rabbis of Jerusalem, the youngest son of Rabbi Nachum of Szadek and the brother of Rabbi SHlomo Zalman Baharan. The son-in-law of Rabbi Akiva Yoseg Schlesinger, author of "Lev Ivri". A disciple of the Maharil Diskin. Was known for his zealousness. Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach considered him his major rabbi.

Condition: Good.
