Tehilim (Psalms) - Zhitomir, 1853
A book of Pslams with the "Metzudat David" and "Metzudat Zion" commentaries by Rabbi Yechiel Hillel Altshuller and with Ma'amadot. Before each chapter, the virtues of the chapter. Vowelized with cantillation notes.
Zhitomir printing press, by the brothers Rabbi Chanina Lippa and Rabbi Yehoshua Heschil Shapira, 1853.
The printing press of the Shapira family was re-founded in the city of Zhitomir in 1847 by the grandsons of the Rabbi of Slavita, Rabbi Chanina Lippa and Rabbi Yehoshua Heschil Shapira. It was active until 1864. Many important books were printed by this printing press, including basic Jewish books such as Torah, Nevi'im , Ketuvim, an edition of the Talmud - 20 volumes - with Rosh and Maharsha, Rif and Ran. The design of the leaves is one of the most impressive of the time, Talmud Yerushalmi, prayer books, four Turim, Shulchan Aruch, Rishonim and Achronim.
The books printed by the Rabbi of Slavita, his sons and grandsons were known for their special holiness, and especially the books of Psalms they had printed, due to the fact that the printers treated their profession with reverence and used to immerse their printing tools in a Mikveh before they started to work. It was common knowledge that having a book printed in Slavita or Zhitomir was a Segulah for safety and success.

[2], 144, 28 leaves (the Bibliography of the Hebrew Books lists 28 leaves by counting the last leaves of the Ma'amadot). 20 cm.
Condition: The title page is partially restored (60% original) by a professional restoration. Throughout the book there are leaves with various flaws, moth damage and wear, including damage to text - yet all the flaws have been professionally restored. It is most likely that leaves have been completed from another copy. Leaf 24 of the Ma'amadot is missing. Leaf 28 exists yet it seems that a leaf that followed leaf 28 is missing. With a new, half-leather impressive binding.
