Torah Novellae and Sermons by Rabbi Lipman Tviski [Tausk?], Hungary, 19th Century
Large work including sermons on the Torah, holidays and eulogies. Apparently authored by Rabbi Lipman Tviski, dayan inפעלעג'האזא . He signed on leaf 124b: מה שדרשתי פה פעלעטהאז כ"ד אדר תרל"ג לפק" (refer to Y.Y. Cohen, Chachmei Hungaria, p. 80-81 for information about this rabbi).
166 leaves. Paper. 28x22 cm. Legible Ashkenazic text on both sides of the page. Autograph.
The author quotes homilies from various works: Yad Yosef, Mateh Naftali, Ma'amar Esther and more, and then continues to expound on the subject. Most of the sermons are in Hebrew, with a few in Yiddish. Leaf 11b features a eulogy for the distinguished Rabbi Yaakov Warstein. Leaf 141b: 'I heard this parable from the Rabbi of Tzelem..at the inauguration of the Pest Orthodox synagogue'. This was apparently from 1871, when Rabbi Menachem ben Eliezer Katz-Prostez, a prominent disciple of the Chatam Sofer, was Rabbi of Tzelem (refer to HaChatam Sofer V'Talmidav', p. 316-323). Leaf 241b: Short homily in Yiddish 'from the Chatam Sofer'.
Not bound. The large majority of this work is in fine condition, other than a few leaves at the beginning and end.
