Commentary on Kohelet in the Handwriting of Rabbi Shneur Chanoch Henich Ettin, Dayan of Vitebsk
A long commentary on Kohelet from the Chassid Rabbi Shneur Chanoch Henich Ettin, Dayan of Vitebsk, one of the great transmitters of the Torah of Chabad. Not published.
[38] paper leaves. 17*23cm. Autograph, with erasing, corrections and additions in the margins and between the lines.
Identification of the manuscript is according to the inscription at its end: "Commentary on Kohelet from Rabbi Shneur Zalman Chanoch Henich Ettin son of Rabbi Yeshayahu Ettin, Dayan in the holy congregation of Vitebsk, written in 1848 during the first Cholera outbreak, they are still not arranged and need to be re-arranged".
Rabbi Shneur Chanoch Henich Ettin, the son of Rabbi Yeshaya Ettin, the son-in-law of Rabbi Natan Nata who was the son-in-law of Rabbi Yom Tov Lipman Shik, the son of Rabbi Chanoch Henich Shik, the well-known Dayan of Shklov. Was accepted as Rabbi of Vitebsk on the Tzemach Tzedek's recommendation. In the Tzemach Tzedek's sons' letter they write about him that he is "a famous learned man who also knows Chassidut".
