by R. Eliyahu Ibn Chaim. With signature reading
“Yaakov Moshe son of the Gaon R. Shaul” seemingly
R. Yaakov Moshe Levenstam.
R. Yaakov Moshe Levenstam (1748-1815)
was famous as one the greatest scholars of his
generation as well as being one of the most
prominent Rabbinical leaders of his era. A son of
R. Shaul of Amsterdam (Binyan Ariel) he was a
student of his esteemed father. He served as Rav in
the communities of Kliven, Vihlen and in 1790 he
succeeded his father as the Rav of the prestigious
Amsterdam community.
