Albert Einstein (1879-1955) was the most influential physicist of the 20th century. He was invited to visit the United States by the Institute for Advanced Studies in Princeton, New Jersey, and, due to the Nazi rise to power and their persecution, didn't return to Germany (where he was a professor in Berlin).
A number of influential Jews, including Abba Silver Hillel and Joseph Persky, participated in this reception held in honor of Einstein.
