Amir paints mostly landscapes combining structures and nature. Her paintings are based on pictures she takes herself, such as Jerusalem – the Old City and the view seen from the Sherover Promenade, Rosh Pina, Bethlehem of Galilee, Ein Karem, Judean Mountains and more as well as the views she sees from the window of her apartment in Givat Shmuel.
Amir uses mixed media – paintbrush, ink, pencil and Chinese paint - on rice paper. Her works are noted for their preciseness, with the texture of each stone, tile, trunk or leaf depicted with precision to its minute details.
The artist Ayelet Zohar has written about the works of Rachel Amir: "The works of Rachel Amir expose a new dimension indicating the constant conflict between inhabited areas and nature".
