Last Hopes – A Postcard from a Jew in Warsaw Under German Occupation, Before the Establishment of the Ghetto, to His Brother in Lithuania, and in it His Hopes to Save His Family and to Immigrate to Israel – German
Yankel Zilberberg wrote from Warsaw on the 8th May 1940, about half a year before the establishment of the Ghetto, to his brother Yosef Zilberberg in Kovno – Lithuania. The postcard was sent about a month before Lithuania was annexed to the Soviet Union.
At that time the Nazi oppressors had already decreed a lot of decrees against the Jews of Warsaw, but the Ghetto had not yet been established. Lithuania was still independent, and he hoped to try and escaped to there.
The writer asks his brother to make urgent efforts for the family to immigrate to Israel, and tells him that all of their efforts up until now have failed. He mentions a woman by the name of Feinlicht from Vilna who offered to take the children of the family in.
Condition: Good. Folding signs.
