Signed Letters from the Rothschild Family to the Hamburger family, Bankers in Jerusalem – End of the 19th century – Very rare
15 letters in German, in nice Gothic script, sent by the Rothschild family to the Hamburger family, whose members were bankers in Jerusalem. The letters are hand-signed by members of the Rothschild family.
The letters deal with financial matters, which indicates the reliability of the Jerusalem bankers and the reputation of their bank "The Bank of the Brothers Hamburger".
The small shop on David Street in the Ancient City of Jerusalem was big enough for both the post office and the bank that were managed by Neta Hirsch and Pinschas Hamburger. The bank had connections with major banks in Europe and America.
The bank was one of the first two Jewish banks in Jerusalem; it even gave loans to the first citrus growers of Petach Tikva. It finally went bankrupt in 1912.
Condition: Good. Filing holes.
