Urim V'Tumim. First Edition. Venice 1603. Signature of R. Gur Aryeh Ha’Levy.
Commentary to Yeshaya, Yirmiyahu and part of Sefer Shmuel, by R. Meir Arama, a son of the Akeidas Yitzchok. With signature and glosses of R. Gur Aryeh Ha’Levy.
R. Meir Arama (died 1522), was one of the most distinguished exiles of the Spanish expulsion. He settled in Naples and later Salonika where he led a great Yeshiva. He authored numerous seforim, including Sefer Meir Tehillos on Tehillim.
R. Gur Aryeh Ha’Levy was a renowned Talmid Chochom in Matuna, where he was appointed Dayan in 1665. He corresponded regularly with R. Shmuel Abuav and many of the responsa in “Dvar Shmuel” are written to him. He also corresponded with R. Moshe Zacuto (Ra’MaZ). In addition to being a famous Posek, he was a great Kabbalist, as the CHIDA, in Shem HaGedolim states, that R. Gur Aryeh was able to hear the ‘Angel’ (Maggid) who taught Torah to the Ra’MaZ.
