Rabbi Kahana states in this letter that it was customary in Warsaw to circumcise older children while using sedatives for relieving their pain.
Rabbi Shlomo David Kahana was one of the greatest rabbis of his time, a rabbi in Warsaw and Poland. At the beginning of World War II, he immigrated to Israel and lived in Jerusalem. He served as a rabbi in the Old City of Jerusalem. During the Holocaust, he dealt with the issue of the Agunot and therefore, received the title "the Father of Agunot".
