Imposition of Excommunication of Belz Chassidim. Munkacs, 1927. Sharp Leaflet.

Munkacs-Belz dispute. Leaflet signed by the rabbis of Munkacs against "the Chassidim of Belz in Munkacs." Printed on two leaves.

Leaflet in especially aggressive language, underlined for emphasis in parts of what is written.

"The great rabbinical court decided ... that there was a breach, for some scoundrels to rush and print their abominations ... to speak of a tzaddik in the common language ... and we have finished speaking ... to the heads of the ruffians who did this villainous deed in darkness, to ban and excommunicate them ... and such was done in a gathering of thousands of Jews ... on Sunday of the week of the Torah portion VaEra 1927 was read in the Great Synagogue here ... declared out loud in Hebrew and in the common language."

On the second page: "And this is the wording of the pronouncement ... we hereby ban and excommunicate from Heaven and from people ... those who printed and wrote and signed the travesty from Monday of VaYeshev, 1927, in the name of "Belz Chassidim in Munkacs"... a travesty ... about ... the local Av Beit Din and leader ... anyone with any part in the aforementioned travesty ... and anyone who knew about it ... who could have protested in any way and did not protest ... this ban applies to him ... and this ban applies to anyone who was clearly aware ... from whom this villainous matter came and did not come to the Beit Din to report and testify ..." with the signatures of the rabbis of the Munkacs Beit Din.
