Rare African Wood Carved Voodoo Stake
Eerily depicting a bound human, this rare piece of history known as an African voodoo stake is one of a kind. The head is removeable leaving an empty cavity likely for ashes, or cursed herbs. The body is heavily bound in robes, with shell eyes, nose and mouse carved in high relief. This is a spectacular example of a wildly misunderstood time in history. Collected prior to 2008, ex-Lacy Gallery (Vanna & Lee Lacy collection), Los Angeles CA. Lacy Gallery was founded upon six decades of collecting ethnographic and fine art. Lee Lacy was a distinguished Hollywood producer of iconic TV series and commercials.
Condition: Patina throughout from age, minor losses to wood with minor bug damage.
