Africa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kwilu River Region, Pende Peoples 20th century. Slightly crescent shaped container with carved faces and geometric incising to the base and lid with a twine joint. Size 10" W x 4 1/2" H
The Pende people are renowned for their artistic expression, especially their masks and sculptures. They create a variety of art used for rituals, ceremonies, and performances. These art is often characterized by bold geometric patterns, strong lines, and contrasting colors
