The Amsterdam Passover Haggadah – A Deluxe Wide-Margined Copy, Amsterdam 1712

A luxurious wide-margin copy of one of the most popular Haggadot ever printed. This edition was printed in Amsterdam in 1712, based on the previous 1695 Amsterdam Haggadah. Although strikingly similar to the previous edition, there are some additions and improvements, such as historiated woodcuts, which are present throughout.

According to the Sephardic and Ashkenazic rites. With the commentary of the Abarbanel and others. Printed by the famed Shlomo Proops of Amsterdam.

A deluxe copy, featuring wide uncut margins, with occasional marginal glosses. It is extremely rare to find a Haggadah with large margins such as this. Such copies were most probably produced in limited numbers for wealthy individuals and were not readily available, even during the time of the printing. The Ets Haim Library of Amsterdam holds several copies of this 1712 Haggadah in their original bindings; yet not even one features wide margins. It is therefore reasonable to assume that almost all copies were originally sold without large margins, and only a handful of the large uncut copies remained.

A complete copy, with both title pages and the fold-out map.

In good condition, with occasional small repairs, not affecting text. First title page partly rebacked with paper. Map supplied from the first 1695 edition, with a small portion supplied in professional facsimile.

Bonund in new ornate leather binding with gilt accents and marbled endpapers.

33x24cm
31 pp.
