20th c. Maitland Smith 4-Panel Faux Library Screen
Maitland Smith, England. Mahogany wood and leather-bound faux book trompe l'oeil folding screen or room divider, ca. 1970s. With marquetry inlay along the lower quarter of the four panels or "shelves." There are gilt details along the spines of the books. The "library" consists of classics such as Tolstoy's "War and Peace, " Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby, " Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew" and many additional titles.
(Panels, folded) height: 77 in x width: 15 1/4 in x depth: 5 in. (Screen, opened) height: 77 in x width: 61 in x depth: 1 in.
Condition: There are no major cracks, losses, or restorations. Some light scratches and scuffs throughout, primarily along high points of contact such as along the hinges and where the panels rest on each other when they are folded. Some wear to the leather spines of the books.
