Rishon LeTzion Rabbi Nachman Batito (1846 - 1915) was a leading rabbi of the Sephardic community. At the young age of twenty he was appointed by Rabbi David ben Shimon to serve as a judge in his Beis Din and in 1909 Rabbi Nachman was appointed Rishon LeTzion.

Rabbi Yosef Chaim HaCohen [1851-1921] Rabbi of the Westerners (the Moroccan community) in Jerusalem, author of Minchat Cohen and VaYechalkel Yosef. Was born in Mogador, Morocco, and immigrated to Eretz Israel in 1864. The family settled in the Old City of Jerusalem. On May 21, 1900, he was elected head of the Western Community Committee in Jerusalem. Served as the right hand of Rishon Lezion, Rabbi Nachman Batito. After his death, Rabbi HaCohen was appointed rabbi of the Moroccan community in Jerusalem.

Rabbi Shimon Tzvi Hurwitz (Horowitz) Was known in Jerusalem as “Rabbi Shimon Kabbalist” or “Rabbi Shimon Lieder” after his native city. In 1906, together with Rabbi Chaim Yehudah Leib Auerbach, established the Sha’ar HaShamayim Yeshiva for study of the wisdom of Kabbalah, and taught Kabbalah in the Yeshiva for forty years. On the second day of Rosh HaShanah 1947 he passed away in the Motza neighborhood where he secluded himself as was his usual manner during Rosh HaShanah, and by special permit his funeral took place that day, from Motza to Jerusalem.

Rabbi Chaim Yehuda Leib Auerbach (1883 – 26 September 1954) was a Haredi rabbi and roshei yeshiva of Shaar Hashamayim Yeshiva, a landmark Jerusalem institution specializing in Talmudic and kabbalah studies for Ashkenazi scholars that he helped found in 1906. The yeshiva still exists today. Known for his great love and personal sacrifice for Torah and Torah scholars, Auerbach raised sons who also became great scholars — including his eldest son, Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach, a preeminent posek of the mid- to late-twentieth century.
