卡勒瓦拉。芬兰民间史诗/埃杜阿尔德 格兰斯特列姆提供的;带有杰尔列的40幅原画与别梅的雕刻在木头上。第三版。圣彼得堡:[公共益处],[1 913 年]。. Finnish folk epic / transferred by E. Granstryom; with 40 original drawings by А. Delle, engraved on the wood by А. Beme. Third edition. SPb.: [Obschestvennaya polza (Public wealth)], [1913]. [2], VI, 381, [3] с. 22.7 x 16.6 сm. In edition illustrated calico binding. Triple toned edging. In good condition: minor binding scuffs and page soiling. The binding and backbone are restored, flyleaves are made on modern designer paper, repeating the publisher's. A fine example of an illustrated juvenile book from the early 20th century. The distinctive feature of this edition of the “Kalevala” (a Karelian-Finnish epic based on Karelian folk epic songs) is its translation, first done in prose by the publisher and author of popular science books for young people Eduard Andreyevich Granstryom (1843-1918). The first publication of this translation (1881) was an extremely courageous act: at that time, a poetic translation of the Kalevala was considered almost "canonical" by L.B. Belsky, completed in 1849. Remarkably, having come out in 1898 and in the 1910s, the prose account of the epic by Granstryom was forgotten by publishers until the 70s of XX c.

Аdolf Gustavovich Beme (1866-1917) is an architect. Served as an architect of the House of Mercy, аnd from 1900 to 1917 - as an architect of Smolny and Aleksandrovsky institute. The publishing house of Granstryom produced mainly expensive gift editions of foreign literature for children and adolescents. These include works by F. Burnett, L. Boussenard, L. Carroll, Z. Topelius etc. Translations from foreign languages were done by E. А. Granstryom himself, as well as his wife and daughter. In total the publishing house issued around 50 names. It ended its existence in 1916. The books of E. Granstryom are collectors' items.

Соndition: scuffs and soiling of the cover, backbone is torn and detached from the back cover, there are water and paint stains on the last pages of the unbacked book, the bottom corner on the last page of the unbacked book is torn off.

卡勒瓦拉。芬兰民间史诗/埃杜阿尔德 格兰斯特列姆提供的;带有杰尔列的40幅原画与别梅的雕刻在木头上。第三版。圣彼得堡:[公共益处],[1 913 年]。[2],VI,381,[3]页。 22.7x16.6厘米。
