Shut HaRadbaz – Venice, 1749, with Handwritten Comments
Shut by Rabbi David son of Zimra (the Radbaz), two sections, separate title pages for each. Venice, 1749. Stefansky Sifrei Yesod 281.

Originally, [2], 129 leaves. In this copy, the title page of section I is missing as well as leaves 107-108 and section II ends with leaf 88 (which includes the indices). Old bindings with leather spines. Some moth perforations and damage. The lower edge of several leaves is cut (apparently, in an attempt to remove an ownership stamp). Taping to the edges of some leaves. Stains and other blemishes. Good overall condition.

2 Comments in ancient Sephardic script on the margins - not studied.

This book was published by Rabbi David Ashkenazi, the Shadar for Jerusalem to Italy, son of the author of Eshel Avraham, author of a commentary on the Zohar. He published it from a manuscript of the Radbaz that had previously been hidden. The publisher received approbations from the foremost rabbis of Jerusalem, Venice and Livorno, with a license from the rabbis of Venice.

The author, Rabbi David ben Zimra – the Radbaz (1479-1575), Rav of Safed, the Rav of the Ari and of Rabbi Bezalel Ashkenazi author of the Shita Mekubetzet.
