Chabad Auction – presenting the rare Tanya and Siddur Shanghai and a collection of Siddurim, Ari version – an auction for collectors of books and pedigreed copies as well.

All items of this auction that were given directly by the Rebbe were thoroughly checked by the auction house to determine who received them from the Rebbe. For most of them, we received additional evidence such as a photograph taken when the item was received and varied authenticity tests. Due to the complexity, items whose source is Rabbi Shaul Shimon Deutsch were specifically noted.

The recipients' names were obscured in most of the items, at the request of their owners, and will be revealed to the buyers. Be advised, further questions about the items should be directed to the auction house until 24 hours before the auction. Entering a bid is binding with all that that entails. Thank you.

The auction will take place on Wednesday 04.01.2023 at 20:00.

The Copy of Rabbi Yisrael Meisel of Kyiv, an Associate of the Rayatz: Pnei Moshe on Patach Eliyahu according to Torat Chabad - First Edition, 1882 bound with Igra Depirka - Lemberg 1910

Sefer Pnei Moshe, elucidation on Patach Eliyahu that is also known as a prayer, compiled from the Torah of the Admorim of Chabad: Admor Hazaken, Mitteler Rebbe and the Tzemach Tzedek. First edition, 1882. [2], 42, [2] leaves.

Bound with Igra Depirka by the Admor Rabbi Zvi Elimelech of Dinov also known as the Bnei Yissachar after his book. Printed in Lemberg, 1910. 58 leaves.

New binding. Slightly fragile paper. Some leaves are slightly loose. Good overall condition.

On the title page of Sefer Pnei Moshe, ownership stamps: "Yisrael Meisel Kyiv" - Rabbi Yisrael Meisel (Meislish, 1918-1951) the son of the Gaon Rabbi Menachem Mendel Meisels, who eventually served as Rav in Warsaw. Was a friend of Chabad, one of the activists who acted in cooperation with the Rebbe Rayatz in Soviet Russia, the leader of the Kyiv community and after his immigration to Israel, the founder and Gabai of the Chassidic synagogue on Yavneh St. Tel Aviv. Was also a successful merchant in Kyiv, who had business even with the royal court in Petersburg. He was also the head of the Chevra Kadisha of Kyiv.

Over the years, he became increasingly closer to the Rebbe Rayatz until the Rebbe called him in one of his letters "ידיד נפשי" (soulmate). In addition and interestingly, sometimes the Rebbe Rayatz called him in his letters 'my in-law' although we are not familiar with any family ties between them.
