R. Eliezer Silver. Two historic telegrams and vintage photograph.
• Telegram from Telz, dated Nov 13 1929, informing R. Silver of the passing of R. Yosef Leib Bloch (Telzer Rov) and that he has been succeeded by his son R. Avrohom Yitzchok. This is of particular historic importance as although R. Zalman Bloch was an elder son, he deferred to his brother R. Avrohom Yitzchok, regarding him as more eminently qualified for the position.
• Holocaust. Telegram from the Va’ad Hatzola, dated 1941, requesting $750 for the rescue of “R. Gerstein, dean of Slabodka Yeshiva”. (Presumably R. Yechezkel Borstein, Rosh yeshivas Slabodka/Divrei Yechezkel).
• Vintage photograph of R. Silver with R. Avrohom Duber Kahana Shapiro, (Rav of Kovno/Dvar Avrohom) taken in 1922.
R. Eliezer Silver (1882-1968), was born in Lithuania and studied under R. Chaim Ozer Grodzinski, (who granted him Semicha), R. Meir Simcha of Dvinsk and R. Chaim Soloveitchik of Brisk. He immigrated to the United States in 1907, and served as Rav in various communities. In 1931, he accepted an invitation to become Rav in Cincinnati, where he remained until his passing. Extremely active in the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the U.S. and Canada (Agudas HaRabanim), of which he was elected president in 1929.
Varying in size. Fine condition.
