R. Shloime HaKohen. Son of the “Bigdei Kehunah” 1822.
Autograph letter of recommendation “Hamlotzo” on behalf of a Yeshiva student who wished to transfer to a different Yeshiva. For hundreds of years it was common practice for a student who wished to transfer to a different Yeshiva to provide a letter of recommendation “Hamlotzo” attesting to his character and abilities in learning.
R. Shloime HaKohen (died 1824), was a son of the legendary R. Meshulam Zalman HaKohen of Furth (Bigdei Kehunah). The community of Furth along with its Yeshiva was among the most the most prestigious Kehillos and Yeshivos in Ashkenaz. R. Shlomo served as Rov in the Kehillos of Shneitoch, Sergentheim and Siltz.
For further reading on the prominence of the Kehilla and Yeshiva in Furth see HaYeshiva HaGedola BFiorda.
