Russian-born Oswald Rosenbaum (1840-88) rose to the rank of captain in the 123rd Ohio Infantry. He was first captured and imprisoned in Columbia, South Carolina from where he successfully escaped. He was again captured with much of his regiment at Winchester, Virginia on June 15, 1863 and was confined in the infamous Libby Prison in Richmond. The New York Times (6th November, 1863) specifically named Rosenbaum as a prisoner at Libby.
After the war Rosenbaum lived in Sandusky, Ohio where he became assistant postmaster.
