Jüdische Familienforschung. Edited by Arthur Czellitzer.
c. 35 (of 50) issues, with index. Listing of all issues available upon request. Original printed wrappers. 8vo.

Berlin: 1924-38.

Founded in 1924, the Gesellschaft für die Jüdische Familien-Forschung ("Society for Jewish Family Research") began publishing its newsletter to connect Jewish genealogists and create a forum for their research. Its editor, the ophthalmologist Arthur Czellitzer (1871-1943), claimed that the understanding of familial lineage is particularly important for the Jewish people. Without their own country or language, knowledge of family history would bring the Jews closer to their original roots, even if they had distanced themselves from the religious rituals of their ancestors. The work and publications of the Society was cut short by the Nazis who, tragically and ironically, used the research of the organization and the scholarship it had inspired, to identify, persecute and murder the Jews of Germany. Czellitzer himself was murdered in the death camp of Sobibor.
