Manuscript - the Piyyut "Ma'oz Tzur Yeshu'ati" in Hebrew with an Ancient Yiddish Translation and Textual Variations - Germany, the 18th Century - Extremely Rare!
Manuscript, the Piyyut "Ma'oz Tzur Yeshu'ati" that is said on Hanukkah with an Ancient Yiddish Translation – Teitsh, Heidenheim, Bavaria Germany, the 18th century.
The last verse in the manuscript before us differs from the one that appears in most prayer books (please see Hebrew catalog).
It is most likely that this is the only Yiddish translation of the Piyyut from this period!
A historical discovery for the study of Piyyutim.
The Piyyut was sent as a letter. The addressee is noted on the reverse side of the leaf: "Zesil Peretz".
The owner of the manuscript at the end of the 20th century added a handwritten comment: "Manuscript of the writer and cantor … Chanoch ben Rabbi Moshe author of the book Brentspiegel, Prague 1630 died 1633 69 years old". We do not know on what his assumption is based.
Attached material.
Single leaf, Hebrew and Yiddish. 20x33 cm.
Condition: Very Good. Time stains. Folding marks.
