CARNOT LAZARE: (1753-1823) French Physicist and politician. Known as the Organizer of Victory in the French Revolutionary Wars. Rare multiple signed document, one page, folio, n.p., n.d. [1797], in French. Signed by three leading members of the Executive Directory, comprising Etienne-François Le Tourneur (1751-1817) French Lawyer, Soldier and Politician, Louis Marie de la Révellière-Lépeaux (1753-1824) French Deputy to the National Convention during French revolution. A prominent figure of the French Directory, and Lazare Carnot. Individually signed by each of them at the base, `Le Tourneur´, `L.M. Revellierelépeaux´, and `Carnot´ respectively, and stating `Approved by the Executive Directory´. The hand written text is in the hand of Révellière-Lépeaux, and is entitled `List of nominations given by the Minister of Navy and Colonies to be submitted to the approval of the Executive Committee.´ The document lists three groups of citizens names, being appointments as Chief of Division, Vessel Captain and Frigate Captain, detailing alongside their names the date of their nominations. Bearing the name of Jacques Félix Hamelin as frigate Captain. The document bears a watermark of the Republic Ministry. Folded, with very small overall age wear, otherwise VG £250-350 Baron Jacques Felix Emmanuel Hamelin (1768-1839) French Baron and Admiral of the French Navy. He commanded numerous naval battles with the British Navy, as well as exploratory voyages in the Indian Ocean and South Seas.
