LACEPEDE BERNARD GERMAIN DE: (1756-1825) French Naturalist and Politician. A very good A.L.S., `b.g.e.l. Cte de Lacepede´, one page, 4to, Paris, 11th March 1824, to a nephew of Cambaceres, in French. Lacepede sends a letter of deep condolences three days after the death of Jean Jacques Régis de Cambaceres, stating in part `..no one, Sir, has learned the new with more sadness than me, the death of your respectable uncle that you have just lost, M. the Duke of Cambaceres..´ further referring the death of a member of his family eighteen months earlier, and referring to his friend Cambaceres saying `Posterity will honour him and will remind with praises the rare qualities of this statesman, his impartiality…´ and concludes listing his personal qualities. With blank address leaf, addressed in Lacepede´s hand `to Monsieur de Cambaceres, the eldest son, at his hotel, rue de l´Université´, bearing large remnants of a black wax seal, divided in two, as well as a small area of paper loss due to the result of the opening. Small overall creasing. G £60-90 Lacepede was a freemason. After the Revolution, he helped Cambaceres to rebuild a French freemasonry submitted to the Emperor.
