PRINCE PHILIPPE, DUKE OF ORLEANS: (1869-1926) French Noble, claimant to the throne of France from 1894 to 1926. An excellent A.N.S., `Philippe Duc D´Orleans´, a very attractive signature example, one page, oblong 8vo, Paris, 12th February 1890, in French. Prince Philippe states `Je viens d´être condamné a 2 ans de prison! Vive la France! (''I have been sentenced to 2 years of prison! Long live France!''). The Duke adds beneath the date, the time ''One hour in the afternoon''. Folded, with small overall age wear, otherwise VG £150-200 Prince Philippe left Switzerland, where he was living in exile, on his 21st birthday in February 1890 and entered Paris by train. He did so in violation of the law of exile of 1886. There, he offered to perform his military service, as required by law. Instead he was arrested and confined. He was sentenced to two years imprisonment at Clairvaux, but was released after a few months and expelled back to Switzerland.
