PIUS VIII: (1761-1830) Pope of the Roman Catholic Church and Ruler of the Papal States 1829-30. A very short pontificate of one year and ten days. An excellent A.L.S., `Francesco Saverio Vescovo di M. Alto´ ("Francesco Saverio Bishop of Montalto delle Marche"), one page, 4to, Monte Alto, 20th January 1805, to Count Francesco Gallo Ruffo of Fermo, in Italian. The future Pope refers to matters of interest for his diocese, and thanks his correspondent for forwarding to him information related to a college, stating in part `Ho ricevuto con piacere le istruzioni.. che sara veramente nobile, e proporcionato all Citta; nella mia Diocesi che e tutta povera..´, ("I have received with pleasure the instructions .. it will be truly noble, and proportionate to the City; in my Diocese which is so poor...´ Further, Pius VIII reports on a young man his correspondent asks about `Sul Giovane… poca abilita..´, and before concluding `Per necesita si conviene la dilazione sul nostro primario affare..´ Paper with attractive watermarks.
