Letter by the Ahavas Yisrael of Vizhnitz to the Admor Rabbi Shalom of Shatz. Grosswardein, 1930
Autographed letter by the Admor Rabbi Yisrael Hager of Vizhnitz, author of Ahavas Yisrael, to the Admor Rabbi Shalom Moskowitz of Shatz-London. At the end of the letter, he signs his name “Hakatan Yisrael ben Harav Hatzaddik Moreinu Harav Baruch zy”a.”
Letter of blessing and congratulations in honor of the marriage of the daughter of the Admor Rabbi Shalom of Shatz’s. “I wish to bless you and the couple with a blessing of mazal tov. May Hashem grant that the chuppah shall take place at a good and successful hour, and the union should be beautiful, with wealth and happiness and success, and you shall merit seeing from them blessed righteous generations that will be a glory for their fathers, and he should reap from them and from all their descendants much nachas.”
The Ahavas Yisrael, the Admor Rabbi Yisrael Hager of Vizhnitz (1860-1936) was the son of the Admor Rabbi Baruch of Vizhnitz, author of Mekor Baruch. Rabbi Yisrael was raised in the court of his exalted grandfather, the Admor Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Vizhnitz, author of Tzemach Tzaddik. In 1875, he moved into the home of his father-in-law, the Admor Rabbi Meir Horowitz of Dzhikov, but in 1878, returned to Vizhnitz where he became his grandfather’s right hand.
The addressee, the Admor Rabbi Shalom Shatz (1875-1958) was renowned as a holy and pious Jew to whom many flocked for blessing, counsel and salvation. At the age of 25, he was appointed Rav of Shatz, and his disciples included Rabbi Meir Shapiro of Lublin, founder and Rosh Yeshivah of Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin. Until this day, thousands pilgrimage to his tomb in London to pray for salvation. In 1827, he deferred to the request of his chassidim in London and settled there until the end of his days.
