KAMPTEGNET – Antisemitic Weekly Published in Denmark as the Danish Counterpart of the Nazi Der Stürmer – Issue of March 12, 1943 - “Thus the day has come when eternal, immutable justice will repay the Jews for their evil deeds; a six-pointed Jewish star marks them...” KAMPTEGNET – Dansk Ugeblad til Kamp for Sandheden – “The Sign of the Struggle – Danish Weekly for the Fight for Truth” – a propaganda weekly published during the German occupation of Denmark in World War II, under distinctly pro-Nazi influence, and effectively the Danish counterpart of the Nazi Der Stürmer. Edited by Aage H. Andersen (leader of the most extreme antisemitic movement in Denmark and a member of the Danish Nazi Party, DNSAP). The newspaper served as a vehicle for the dissemination of anti-Communist and anti-Jewish propaganda. Copenhagen, March 12, 1943. Danish. The newspaper, throughout all of its articles and features without exception, is devoted to virulent incitement against the Jews and is saturated with the extreme antisemitic rhetoric characteristic of Nazi propaganda. Like Der Stürmer, it regularly carried a slogan at the bottom of its front page: “Racial thought stands above local patriotism” (the slogan appearing in Der Stürmer was “The Jews are our misfortune!”). The issue’s main headline personally attacks two rabbis who were leaders of the Jewish community in Denmark: To Rabbinere paa Krigsstien! – “Two Rabbis on the Warpath!” The subheading reads: Rabbinerne Marcus Melchior og Wolf S. Jacobsen i Forklædning – “Rabbis Marcus Melchior and Wolf S. Jacobsen in Disguise.” (Rabbi Marcus Melchior later served as Chief Rabbi of Denmark and was one of the key figures in the rescue of the Danish Jews in 1943.) The issue opens with the antisemitic declaration: “There are two kinds of Danes in Denmark: those who know the Jewish people and know that they are a people of liars, swindlers, and scoundrels from A to Z, and those who do not yet know this. The latter constitute the overwhelming majority, and as a result of their ignorance of the Jews, they do not know what Judaism is, just as they do not know what Communism is. Communism is the instrument of Judaism, and therefore Communism and Judaism are in fact one and the same. These people are likewise unfamiliar with the Jews’ numerous secret methods, their intrigues, and their astonishing hypocrisy, which in many respects exceed the limits of even the most vivid imagination...”. The opening article of the issue, under the headline De reaktionære Magter i U.S.A. (“The Reactionary Powers in the U.S.A.”), portrays the American Jewish Congress as an arm of a “shadow government” supposedly directing U.S. foreign and domestic policy and exercising influence over the Versailles Conference. The article provides a lengthy list of organizations (including Hadassah, Mizrachi, Poale Zion, and charitable associations) in an attempt to create the image of a sprawling “octopus-like network” controlling every sphere of life. A photograph of Rabbi Stephen S. Wise appears prominently in the center of the page, portraying him as a figure “directing worldwide Jewish domination” and as working toward the establishment of a “world Jewish parliament.” At the bottom of the page, a sweeping slogan headed Bolsjevisme, Demokratisme, Plutokratisme – er Jødedom (“Bolshevism, Democracy, Plutocracy – Are Judaism”) encapsulates the Nazi ideological claim that all rival systems of government and ideologies – Bolshevism/Communism, democracy, and the rule of capital/plutocracy – are in fact identical phenomena behind which supposedly stands Judaism. The issue subsequently presents a conspiracy theory involving Denmark, the United States, and Eretz Israel, depicting immigration and international connections as components of a global Jewish conspiracy. An article entitled Fine Henriques og mindre fine Wolfhagen focuses on accusations against prominent Danish-Jewish families (including the Henriques family), alleging financial corruption, fraud, and shadowy control over the banking system and the local press. It also contains an explicit call for expulsion – JØDERNE MAA UD!!! (“THE JEWS MUST GET OUT!!!”) – printed prominently in bold letters and presented as the sole and absolute solution to Denmark’s national problems. Another statement, Jødisk Islæt eller jødisk Indgifte er uforeneligt... (“Jewish influence or intermarriage is incompatible...”), declares that any Jewish element or intermarriage is fundamentally incompatible with Denmark’s future within the Nazi “New European Order.” A separate box provides the Berlin address of the Danish Anti-Jewish League (Dansk Antijødisk Liga, Berlin). On another page, the theory of race and genetic degeneration (JØDERNE SOM »RACE« – “The Jews as a ‘Race’”) is presented. The principal article, by Aage H. Andersen, analyzes Jewry in racial and pseudo-scientific terms,
