The Talmudic Jew - An "updated" edition to the anti-Semitic narrative of the eve of World War II. Belgium, 1936

Le Juif Talmudiste résumé succinct des croyances et des pratiques dangereuses de la juiverie présenté a la considération de tous les chrétiens - "A concise summary of the dangerous beliefs and customs of Judaism presented for the consideration of all Christians", anti-Semitic publication by Auguste Rowling, ACTION ET CIVILISATION publishing house ["Action and Civilization"], Brussels edition - Belgium, [1936] - "Updated edition" with an introduction full of anti-Semitic accusations and allegations, in addition to what was written in the first edition published in 1871. French.

This edition includes an venomous introduction in which the publisher explains how the worldwide Jewry continues in its efforts to take over the world, and accuses them of causing various human diseases: in Russia, the Jewish press creates legitimacy for the killing of Russians, in Spain they release criminals from prison, in Brussels and Prague, Jews make efforts to prevent peace conferences from taking place, Jews are also accused of corrupting Buddhist temples... In different places, Jews are accused of killing Christian clergymen, and more. The publisher calls for a law to be passed to teach the "Protocols of the Elders of Zion" and "The Jewish Talmudist" in all schools, from elementary schools to universities and seminaries. On page 8, there is a photo of Jewish Soviet leaders - Moses Uritsky, Lev Trotsky, and others. And the anti-Semitic caption: "St. Petersburg 1917. The first Talmudic court that sent several hundred thousand Russian Christians to their deaths." On the second title page, it is written "A prize of 10,000 francs was offered in 1888 to anyone who could prove that a single quote included in this work is false."

"The Talmudic Jew" was written by the anti-Semitic writer and priest August Rohling, and was first published in 1871. Soon after, the slanderous book became the foundation of anti-Semitic authors and journalists. The introduction to the book was written by the French anti-Semitic journalist Edouard Drumont. In the book, quotes were taken out of context from the Talmud and interpreted negatively in an attempt to present the theological reason for hatred towards "the Jewish race". One of Rohling's sources was the apostate Aaron Israel Brimann (Dr. Justus), who was known for writing anti-Semitic publications. "The Talmudic Jew" had a significant influence on Jewish haters and even on the Nazi propagandist Julius Streicher who relied on Rohling's arguments in his newspaper "Der Stürmer". Rohling's main argument was that according to Jewish religion and beliefs, it is permissible to harm Christians in any way and even to kill them.

August Rohling appeared as an expert witness in many blood libel trials. In the Tiszaeszlár trial in Hungary, he offered himself to testify that the Jews engage in blood libel during the Passover holiday.

Protestant theologian Franz Delitzsch proved the forgeries and falsehoods in August Rohling's approach to the Talmud. After Rabbi Joseph Samuel Bloch accused Rohling of forgery and perjury, the court allowed Delitzsch to appear as an opposing expert. After he exposed that Rohling was unable to read the Talmud in its original language, Rohling withdrew his lawsuit. Although Rohling lost his teaching license and his writings were placed on the list of banned books, his ideas were widely used among Catholics in central and eastern Europe. Rohling's ideas were disseminated in Nazi Germany primarily through the Boniface Association.
