William Marshall Brown (1863 - 1936) Watercolor on paper pasted on board, signed lower right, measures (20 x 42) and (30 x 51) w/ frame. Born in Edinburgh, he is best known for his figurative work, although he also painted landscapes and still-life.He trained at Edinburgh College of Art and at the Royal Scottish Academy's Life School whilst working as a wood engraver and book illustrator. He won the Chambers Bursary and Stewart Prize and subsequently was awarded the bronze medal for anatomical studies in South Kensington, London.
