As she was unseaworthy, Donitz decided to use her as a shore battery and she steamed slowly to Tromso to be anchored in shallow water. The final attack by 617 Squadron was on 12th November, 1944 in clear weather when at least three Tallboys hit the ship which capsized and rested upside-down on the bottom, trapping 1500 crew.
