Military Medal (GVR) named to 200344 Sjt W G Neill 1/8 A and S HIghrs. William, Gibson Neill was born in 1876 in Govan, Glasgow. He originally joined the 5th (Renfrewshire) Battalion of the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders (200344 is a 5th Battalion number) but was serving with the 8 th (Argyllshire) Battalion in France when he was awarded his MM. This is probably an award for the Second Battle of the Marne (July-August 1918). He survived the war, achieving the rank of WO2, and
was also entitled to the British War Medal and Victory Medal. He died in Falkirk in 1929, aged 53. With copy MIC, medal roll and extract from the London Gazette
dated 7 October 1918 confirming his award of the MM. Good very Fine (GVF).
