Magnificent Head Ornament – ​​"Shokila" – Uzbekistan
A magnificent head ornament, for the forehead or temples (Shokila). Uzbekistan (Xorazm / Khorezm), [late 19th century].
Stamped (gilded) silver; stamped (gilded) silver tin; gemstones; glass.
The ornament consists of drop models (boteh) decorated with gemstones and glass stones. From its lower part hang chains with pendants, in which coral beads and turquoise stones are combined and embedded.
This ornament is part of a set of head and chest ornaments worn by women in the Khorezm province of Uzbekistan. The name "Shokila" refers both to this particular ornament and to the entire set of ornaments.
