A Bezalel Damascene Dish Jerusalem Circa 1910
This dish is decorated with areas of hand inlaid silver and copper. The center has a lit five-branched candelabra inside a large Star of David. At each of five points of the star, there is a structure engraved, clockwise they are: 1)The original buildings of the Bezalel School 2)The Western Wall 3)The Tomb of Rachel 4)The Temple Mount 5)The Tower of David.
Inside the sixth point of the star, a silver inlaid word in Hebrew, "Bezalel" is seen, with the Hebrew letters being artfully interlaced. The rim has a repeating pattern of silver and copper inlay designs.
Good condition. some silver fading at rim of dish, small dent at rim, very small hole at rim of dish.
20cm. x 20cm.
A larger version of this dish, with the same design of these buildings inside a Star of David, appears on the front cover of the book "My Bezalel", by Zev Zelig, which was published in Israel in 2021. This dish was made circa 1920.
