"Yismach Moshe." Maramures-Sighet. 1906. First edition
Yismach Moshe. Section one, Maramures-Sighet, 1906. First edition. Novellae by Rabbi Moshe Teitelbaum, av"d Ujhely.
Novellae on Prophets, Writings and the five megillot, chiddushei aggada, pilpulim and drushim for holidays. 10 books in one volume. [The second section was printed in 1908.]
Rabbi Moshe Teitelbaum, av"d Ujhely (1759-1841), was born in Poland. In his youth, he studied in the beit medrash of the GR"A in Vilna. He served in the rabbinate in Shinov and Ujhely, and held halachic correspondence with the leading rabbis of his time (the Chatam Sofer and others). As he got older, he drew closer to chassidut (after his daughter married Rabbi Aryeh Leib, author of "Aryeh Debi Ilai," who travelled with him to Lublin), and he became a disciple of the Chozeh of Lublin and the Ohev Yisrael of Apta.
In 1908, he was appointed rabbi in Ujhely, and he began disseminating chassidut in Hungary. He was noted in his generation as a wonder-worker and distributed many amulets. His works include Heshiv Moshe on halacha, Yismach Moshe and Tefila L'Moshe. His progeny include the holy Admors from Sighet and Satmar, and other prominent chassidic dynasties.
