The Wandering Jew. Anti-semitic placard. France, 19th century
La Retournee du Juif-errant [the return of the wandering Jew]. Unknown colored placard depicting the "wandering Jew" in strange circumstances, with anti-Semitic captions under each picture.
The legend of the wandering Jew is based on an a mediveal anti-Semitic tale about an immortal Jew who appears from time to time in different eras in various formats and roles. The legend is sourced on a 1228 story about a Christian priest who met a Jew, and  it serves as the source for various anti-Semitic stories about Jews that appeared in caricatures in the 18-19th century.
