Touching Letter Full of Faith by the Netivos Sholom to His In-Law the Birkas Avraham
Lengthy and important letter full of faith describing the horrific situation in Jerusalem, written by the Netivos Sholom of Slonim to his in-law the Birkas Avraham of Sloni, who was staying in Tiberius. Ca. 1948.
The letter, which is not dated, describes the fear and horror of the bombings in Jerusalem alongside words of comfort to his great in-laws.
'ימים קודרים עוברים מתיחות ופחדים ועתיד מעורפל שאחריתה מי ישורנה. השי"ת ישמרנו בתוך כלל ישראל, לעבור הזמן בשלום. מפחד בלילות לא מסתובבים ברחובות. והתחילו כבר בנשק הסודי במאה שערים שאומרים תהלים למעלה מד' ימים ביום ובליה בלי הפסק וזה בדוק ומנוסה מימי עלמים.
אני מוכרח להפסיק שקול היריות והפצצות מדהימים ונראים קרובים וא"א לרכז המחשבה , השי"ת ישמרנו ויצלינו מפגעי הזמן בתוך כלל ישראל.
The rest of the letter was written on Motza'ei Shabbas, reassuring his in-laws: אל תדאגו לשלומנו עד הנה עזרונו רחמיו ובודאי אל יטשנו'.
[1] lined leaf handwritten on both sides by the Netivos Sholom. Fold lines with wear and tears along them. Slightly fading ink. Good condition.
