Shut HaRashba, V, with Kuntres Rachamim by Rabbi Chaim Palachi. Livorno, [1825]. First edition. Copy of Rabbi Raphael Zilberman, the Rav of the Ashkenazic community of Safed and his grandson Rabbi Avraham Leib Zilberman Av Beis Din of Safed. 


[6], 86 leaves. 30 cm. Shut, Siman 293-299, by Rabbi Chaim Palachi. With an ownership notation and the signatures of Rabbi Raphael Zilberman and Rabbi Avraham Leib Zilberman. 


Rabbeinu the Chabif, Rabbi Chaim Palachi (1788-1868) one of the greatest Sephardic Poskim and Kabbalsist of all time. Was born in Izmir to his father Rabbi Yaakov. On his mother's side he was a descendant of the Rishon LeZion Rabbi Yosef Raphael ben Chaim Chazan author of "Chikrei Lev", served as his Meshamesh and received his Semicha from him. In his Sefer "Tzava'ah MeChaim", Rabbi Chaim recalls his early years: "May Heaven and Earth be my witnesses that since the day I became knowledgeable until I was twenty years old I would study diligently day and night without any Bitul". Rabbi Chaim studied Torah with Rabbi Pinchas di Shigora. In 1837, Rabbi Chaim was appointed Av Beis Din of the great Beis Din of Izmir and in 1855 was appointed Chacham Bashi of the Jews of Turkey. Rabbi Chaim authored dozens of compositions on all subjects of the Torah.


Rabbi Raphael Zilberman (1841-1917) the Rav of the Ashkenazic community of Safed. Was born in Uman and immigrated to Eretz Yisroel with his parents in 1850. Since 1860 served as the Dayan of the Ashkenazic community of SAfed and since 1872 succeeded his father as the Rav of the town.  


Rabbi Avraham Leib ben Rabbi Yitzchak Dov Zilberman (1889-1947) Av Beis Din of Safed. Was orphaned as a child and was educated by his grandfather, Rabbi Raphael. After his marriage, lived in the Chatzer of the Admor of Shtefansht. Since 1909 served as Dayan in Safed.


Simple card binding. Stains. Folds to the corners of the first and last leaves. Moth holes. Fair-good condition.
